Abstract


Objective: The aims of this study is to check the oral health status of primary school children in Vientiane, Lao.

Methods: The authors had conducted through taking the intra oral photos of the subjects by use of Nikon digital camera, in order to interpretate the image for finding the caries states of the 1,006 children. And decayed and filled primary tooth person rate (df rate), and decayed primary tooth rate (dt rate), decayed and filled primary tooth index (dft index), decayed and filled primary tooth surface index (dfs index), decayed, missing, filled permanent tooth person rate (DMF rate), decayed permanent tooth rate (DT rate), decayed, missing, filled permanent tooth index (DMFT index), decayed, missing, filled permanent tooth surface index (DMFS index) were calculated.

Results: df rate of 6-year-old children was 91.7%, that of 7-year-old-children was 89.4%, and that of 8-year-old children was 83.0%. dft index were 6.48 at 6-year-old children, 5.31 at 7-year-old children, 4.15 at 8-year-old children. dfs index were 10.94 at 6-year-old children, 10.51 at 7-year-old children, 8.43 at 8-year-old children. DMF rate of 8-year-old children was 49.0%, that of 9-year-old children was 52.9%, and that of 10-year-old children was 50.8%. DT rate and filled tooth (FT) rate were 86.5% and 11.8% in 8-year-old children, 85.9% and 12.8% in 9-year-old children, and 91.0% and 8.0% in 10-year-old children. DMFT index were 0.88 at 8-year-old children, 0.95 at 9-year-old children, 1.05 at 10-year-old children. DMFS index were 1.16 at 8-year-old children, 1.26 at 9-year-old children, 1.59 at 10-year-old children.

Conclusion: It needed the oral health education, providing filling-treatment for caries, and prevention program for LAO children in governmental level with international cooperation.
